Tyler, TX (April 8, 2021) — Recognizing both the tremendous food gap that exists in our own communities, and the East Texas Food Bank’s remarkable mission to create a hunger-free East Texas, Datamax felt moved to do its own small part to help.
So, in collaboration with the East Texas non-profit organization, they came up with a plan.
Datamax is pleased to announce the The Multiply Meals Plan, a donation program with the East Texas Food Bank to help support its many initiatives of feeding children, families and seniors, as well as strengthening communities through nutrition education and hunger-relief work and advocacy. The plan is part of Datamax's ongoing DatamaxCares initiative.
“When we read through the East Texas Food Bank’s 2020 Annual Report, and later met with representatives at the food bank, we were both alarmed by the severity of food insecurities here in our own back yard and, frankly, awe-inspired by the enormous scope of their mission to fight hunger in the 26 counties they serve,” said Robert Caldwell, Vice President of Marketing at Datamax Inc. “The fact that hunger affects 1 in 5 East Texans is a staggering statistic. No matter how small our contribution is to the overall mission, we felt it absolutely necessary to do our part.”
According to the East Texas Food Bank’s 2020 Annual Report:
- The East Texas Food Bank operates with over 200 partner agencies and feeding programs throughout East Texas, covering 26 East Texas Counties... or 20,000 square miles.
- 96 percent of all revenue and support the East Texas Food Bank receives goes directly toward its programs.
- 91,533 families were served by its partner agencies and programs in 2020.
- 46,976 snacks were distributed during the school year in 2020 through the food bank's Afterschool Snack Program.
- 11 million total pounds of USDA product were received by the food bank in 2020, a 55.5% increase over 2019.
The East Texas Food Bank was created in 1988 by a group of community leaders in Tyler to fight hunger. ETFB started with 17 partner agencies in 10 counties and now operates with over 200 partner agencies and feeding programs throughout 26 East Texas counties.
While its programs have evolved to meet the needs of our community, ETFB’s vision remains the same today as when it started — to create a hunger-free East Texas. ETFB believes that every East Texan should have access to the nutritious food they need to thrive. The East Texas Food Bank serves its community with three main impact areas:
- FEED children, families and seniors through 200+ partner agencies and feeding programs.
- STRENGTHEN families through nutrition education and benefits assistance programs.
- LEAD the community in hunger-relief work and advocacy.
"I think it’s important that companies and employees, like our own at Datamax, recognize that there are people in need and we should contribute to that,” Datamax Texas President David Rhodes said. “It may not always be the largest amount of money, but it will have some positive effect.”
