Tyler, TX (Sept. 6, 2023) — Datamax was one of four recipients honored by the East Texas Food Bank at the fourth annual Hunger Hero Awards Presentation, held September 6 in conjunction with Hunger Action Month.
Hunger Hero Awards were given to State Senator Robert Nichols - Senate District 3 (Individual Supporter), Tyler High School, and Tyler Legacy High School with Tyler ISD (Community Partner Organization), Datamax Inc. (Corporate Partner), and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Ministry Partner).
“This group of honorees exemplifies the commitment needed in the fight against hunger,” said David Emerson, CEO of the East Texas Food Bank. “Record numbers of East Texans are seeking help to feed their families because of inflation. ETFB gave out 27 million meals to 151,000 households in our past fiscal year.”
According to Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study, 1 in 7 East Texans including 1 in 5 children are hungry. This amounts to 188,530 adults including 63,260 children. Datamax's ongoing partnership with the Food Bank, chiefly through its Multiply Meals Program, represents its resolve to being involved corporate citizens in the communities the company serves.
"We are humbled to be recognized as a Hunger Hero here in East Texas, and remain committed to doing our own small part to help fight hunger and feed hope here in East Texas," Datamax Texas President David Rhodes said. "The East Texas Food Bank does such a tremendous job, not just in the amount of territory they cover (26 Texas counties), but the depth of resources they deliver to hungry East Texans. The variety of programs they've put into place to fulfill such a basic human need is second to none."
Under the Multiply Meals initiative, for every nominal business technology purchase with Datamax, they will make a donation to the East Texas Food Bank, in honor of the client. The goal is simple: to help put more food on the table for communities in need within the 26 East Texas counties Datamax and the Food Bank jointly serve.
"It makes me proud of the company I work for to take on a partnership like this," said Datamax Solutions Specialist Robert Baker. "We're just a tiny piece of the overall East Texas Food Bank mission, but I feel as though the Multiply Meals program has longevity to it. And it's exciting to know that we are bringing in businesses who choose to partner with us into the 'Fight Hunger, Feed Hope' mission."
